Abstract
This paper investigates Bitcoin-like blockchains enabled traffic efficiency applications in VANETs. Prior works do not provide a thorough study on the adaptation of the Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism in the context of traffic records management, nor a detailed study of performance. Therefore, in this work, we study a PoW based blockchain for secure traffic-related records in the VANETs’ context. We introduce a blockchain simulator to assess our protocol’s performance (i.e., throughput and latency). Results show that the proposed scheme ensures the integrity and traceability of the shared traffic-related records and point out trade-offs between security and performance.
