Abstract
Explosive growth of images and video captured and recorded on computing devices has occurred in the last decade. With the emergence and widespread adoption of broadband Internet in the late 1990s and continuing to mobile and cellular phones, video and images are ubiquitous in all aspects of modern society. The challenge is how this visual data can be used and analyzed on a large scale and how the results of this analysis can be applied to society and its citizens. © 2014 IEEE.
