Description
Peter Kean and Sarah Sabina Morris Kean wrote from Elizabethtown, New Jersey to Susan Neimcewicz who was staying at Thomas Biddle’s home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gouverneur. Glad to learn from Susan’s letter of Monday that she and their dear friends on Chestnut Street were all well. Sarah had written to Susan that they found their little darling in perfect health and that John met them at the Point looking as well as possible. Poor Mary Ricketts suffered dreadfully from her face, she was in agony on Sunday at Lawrences. Peter had not seen Phil till their return as he was fishing with Dr. Dewes[?] on Long Island. Mary went over to New York on Monday accompanied by Maria and her girls and Julia, John, Lawrence, and Catherine Ricketts. Peter spent Monday in Newark on Lombard Bank business. Peggy Rutgers, Sally, and the children dined with them in Elizabethtown. Cornelia had been ill and was quite indisposed. Christine was delighted with the children. Sarah Kean added a few lines where she mentioned that Mrs. Gouverneur was so kind to send Susan some flowers, vegetables, etc. Sarah sent Mrs. Gouverneur word that the dresses and patterns could not be sent on horseback by the person who came for them. Sarah decided to bring them herself to save her dresses from destruction. Apologized for such a short excerpt but the carriage was waiting for her to deliver the dresses.
People mentioned: John Kean; Mary Ricketts; Mrs. Biddle; Phil (enslaved?); Dr. Dewes(?); Julia, Lawrence, and Catherine Ricketts; Peggy Rutgers; Sally; Cornelia; Christine; and Mrs. Gouverneur
