This document includes correspondence between Mabel G. Holmes and Dr. Donald Raichle and an article written by Holmes about her early education and teaching career, including discrimination.

Mabel G. Holmes (1902-1993) graduated from the New Jersey State Normal School in 1921. She became the first African American teacher in Elizabeth. Later, she became a Principal and member of the Board of Education.
