About the Journal & Issue
The Writing Center at the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons is thrilled to announce a call for papers for the Fall 2026 issue of The Kean Review: Journal in Student Research. The Kean Review is an academic journal dedicated to showcasing original research and creative writing by Kean University students across disciplines. The team invites submissions that emphasize innovative approaches and contributions to contemporary research.
The call is open to undergraduate and graduate students with at least a 3.0 overall GPA and those who have at least one faculty mentor to review their submission. Kean alumni can also submit. Please review our first issue for guidance.
The Kean Review encourages academic research and creative writing papers that engage diverse methodologies, perspectives, and topics. The journal will be published through the Kean Digital Learning Commons. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis until May 31, 2026.
Suggested Topics
Papers may include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborative and interdisciplinary research articles and essays
- Creative writing, including fiction and nonfiction; poetry; prose; and works that include visual and/or sonic media
- Emerging technologies and their global and/or national impact
Submission Guidelines
Eligibility
- Open to undergraduate and graduate students with at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
Paper Requirements
- Authors must have a faculty advisor or mentor.
- All papers must be reviewed by a faculty advisor or mentor prior to submission.
- Submissions must be original and unpublished.
- Research Papers: 2,000–5,000 words, with references
- Creative Papers: 5–20 pages. Genres may include fiction and nonfiction, poetry projects, short stories, manuscript excerpts, and works incorporating visual and/or sonic media. Authors may include citations when the work involves research components or direct quotations.
- Follow discipline-appropriate citation style guidelines (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
Format
- Submit papers as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx).
- PDFs are accepted for media- or format-specific works only.

All submissions undergo a peer review process.
