He had left his regiment in North Carolina and traveled north alone and most likely did not know anyone in the city. Philip referred to George as his cousin, but he is in fact the son of Philip's sister Mary. He asked John if he could introduce him to the British Charge des affairs, Mr. Bond. Philip's wife, Cornelia Livingston, made the same request of her sister's husband, Colonel Reade.

James Ricketts wrote to an unknown person (possibly Susan Kean), unaddressed. Ricketts informed his correspondent that he had just finished their sister’s letter of the 19th and had the pleasure of receiving a long letter from his boy, James. James gave an account of his proceedings abroad a Frigate. James was delighted with the new captain, who offered him free use of his library. James was so taken with the city of Cadiz that he drew a sketch of it. He planned on leaving Cadiz as soon as another Frigate joined them then they were going to sail up the Mediterranean. Ricketts informed his correspondent that two years to the day, they had arrived home. This document is undated.

Longed to see Susan but supposed she would not be able to leave town until their brother made another dividend.

Advised her not to be uneasy about bringing Peter to visit as Susan kept him free of infection. Discussed a room being quite smart and decorated with green silk. Sarah had letters addressed to Susan that she believed were from Mrs. Corvaisier and a gentleman who stopped at Lyons.
